Therapy Approaches
Individual:
Counseling or psychotherapy provided to one person at a time. Individual sessions focus on a single person – the client – and the dynamics he or she encounters. Individual sessions are most effective in dealing with issues that are personally relevant to the client where the client prefers a setting that is private and safe. Some examples of work done in individual sessions are: depression, personality refinement, anxiety, addictions or intimacy.
Couples:
Counseling or psychotherapy provided to two people at the same time. These two individuals are usually in an intimate relationship (i.e., married, dating, divorcing) and are experiencing some difficulty in their relationship. Couple’s sessions are most effective in dealing with the dynamics between two intimately involved parties who are seeking to resolve their dilemma together. Some examples of work done in couple’s sessions are: conflict, infidelity, commitment and sexual addictions.
Family:
Counseling or psychotherapy provided to at least two people of the same family at the same time. These individuals are usually related by some sort of family tie and are experiencing discord that is making family life difficult or unsettling. Family sessions are most effective in dealing with multiple dynamics and personalities in a family system and a safe and neutral place is needed in order to resolve discontent or disharmony. Some examples of work done in family sessions are: self-mutilation, abuse, addictions and conflict.
Group:
Supportive counseling or psychotherapy provided to at least six (6) people at the same time. These individuals may or may not know each other but are brought together to work out a particular issue or work on a specific dynamic together. Some examples of work done in group sessions are: addictions, depression and sexuality. Groups are also created for retreats.
